Basketball is an inspirational sport that as physical just as much as it is technical and mental. Some fans and players are not only passionate about their favorite sport but whose lives and fate are bound to the sport. Attitude plays a significant role in determining the outcome of the game. Some people play to win; others play to avoid defeat, but the most important thing is that a player does what is required of him in the basketball court. Although many individually talented players have revolutionized the sport, team work is vital in achieving positive results.

Speaking of individual talent, one cannot think of basketball and forget Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is one of the greatest pioneers of the sport, not only because of his unmatched talent but also because of his love for the game. Twice he retired from the game and twice he still found his way back to it. It was just too difficult for him to walk away from the sport he loves so dearly. He was a special player that many teams feared to play against.

Despite being clearly a talented player, he was a hard worker. He would study how his opponents played, and would find a way to beat them. He regularly improvised his game, and in no time, he had become a household name. He became an international star. His name was talked about even in remote villages of some of the world’s poorest countries. That just showed how far his fame went. Without his contribution to the sport, basketball may not be as popular as it is. Although he has since retired for quite some time now, his name is still on the lips of many people.

Despite the fame bestowed on him and newspapers writing about him all the time, Michael Jordan suffered and endured the pain of defeat like everyone else. There were times when he was expected to win the game for his team and failed. There were times when his performance did not meet or exceed expectations. He was human too and maybe he had his downfalls, but he always managed to pull himself together and face the next game with a different mind-set.

He is popular for taking a number of long range game-winning shots in the last few seconds of a match. It doesn’t mean that he had a guarantee that he would never miss, but he had faith in his abilities and trying. He was not afraid to take the risk. He was afraid of not trying. Sometimes, in basketball and in life, taking a shot or risking something is what matters. The rest will take care of itself.

Michael Jordan may not live until the end of time, but his contribution to the sport will live until the sky ceases to be blue. His legacy will not only be of winning or losing in some important matches but trying hard every time. Defeat doesn’t mean you have been stopped; it means your success has been delayed for a while, it is up to you to get up and reclaim your top position. Michael showed all that during his playing days. We can do that in our lives as well, and we will be successful.
