The world was not built in one day. It was not created by one man or one nation. It was not designed to suit the needs of one person or serve the interests of one particular group. It was built with the purpose of allowing its citizens to strive and make the best of their time on earth. The world was designed to be flexible to change. It was designed to allow people of all races and creed to live in perfect harmony without any barriers. It is quite a beautiful thing, but we cannot continue to live in the same world that some people lived in hundred years ago.

The world is changing. Technology is doubling at a rate of fewer than five years. Our ships are no longer wind powered; television sets are no longer monochromatic, and people now communicate via social networks instead of beating drums or using smoke signals. Revolutions and wars may have changed world politics, but variations in the economy, technology, and other aspects have been brought about by ideas. Ideas are powerful and the sole vehicle for efficient and violence free change.

No idea has ever been well received. The ideas were met with resistance and criticism. Many people don’t take kindly to changes, especially if the current system serves their best interests. Without change, the world would still be stagnant. New ideas are not meant to abolish the old ones completely, but to compliment them and improve where they are lacking.

As the world kissed goodbye to wars and ushered a new era of global peace and stability, science and technology were at the forefront of creating a digital world powered by the silicon chip. It changed the entire electronics industry. The silicon chip contributed to the founding of many high-end technological companies that would soon shape the world to be what it is today.

The silicon chip was invented with the aim to solve problems created by vacuum tubes. Vacuum tubes were not efficient, and they occupied a considerable amount of space. The first computer, which was made of vacuum tubes, weighed in a staggering 27 000kg, had approximately 18 000 vacuum tubes and was housed in a large room. It consumed a lot of power, and it rendered the gadget very expensive, not to mention inconvenient. If the world had continued with the use of vacuum tubes, only a few people could afford a computer, let alone the space to house it.

The silicon chip came to the rescue. The micro-computer industry blossomed and today we are enjoying the fruits of the idea that changed the electronic world. As computer gained widespread usage, the internet was born, and the whole world was connected. Communication has been made easy; learning has been simplified and a few people can survive without a computer or related products. The silicon chip dwarfed the earth into a small global village. Successful entrepreneurs of our time were made due to the advent of the silicon chip.
